We took advantage of our balmy warmish temperatures this weekend and decided to drive out to Grand Beach. It's not as quiet as one may think on a February afternoon as there is still a lot of activity going on.
Someone always maintains a shoveled portion of the lagoon for ice skating. There is usually a couple or two enjoying cross country skiing. And of course, the most often sited activity is snowmobiling.
As far as I'm concerned, I always enjoy my favorite activity despite the season...walking. Ever since I can remember, I've always loved looking at houses and cottages. I love seeing what the owners have done with them. I get inspired seeing all the possibilities and unique ideas.
I also love the look of undisturbed snow.
I also love the look of undisturbed snow.
The distant hum of snowmobiles and the occasional voice in the distance reminds me that it's not really the dead of winter but rather the soft noise's of a deep slumber, just trying to get in a few more minutes of restful sleep before it's time to wake.
I love seeing the tracks of animals that I rarely see in the summer.
I don't think we're the only ones that have seasonal homes.
Only at the beach, can you leave your Christmas decorations up until February and they still look good.
And this is my favorite photo. From now on, whenever I hear the term "a blanket of snow", I'll be thinking of this porch.

As I drove up my driveway yesterday, my 7 year old neighbour was walking home from school for lunch. He ran up to my door as I was getting out of my van and announced very excitedly, "Only five more weeks of winter!!"
I couldn't have said it better myself.
I'm here for YOU.
I'm here for YOU.

Those are great pictures! I'll have to forward them on whenever i hear the classic "Why do i live in Winnipeg" on the cold winter days.
ReplyDeleteI know winter is hard for all of us but there is also something quite beautiful about it at the same time.
ReplyDelete...if only it wasn't so loooong.
