Merv says 6 More Weeks Till Spring...

As I write this, Winnipeg is currently sitting at -18C but with the windchill it feels more like -31C.  We are all so so tired and frustrated of the cold, of the windchill, of the snow, and last but not least, we are frustrated with the  huge windrows, (I just learned of this word last night).  We're all waiting for winter to come to an end but on that note...

Our province's local mascot and unofficial groundhog, Manitoba Merv, did see his shadow this morning.

Tradition holds that if a groundhog casts a shadow on Feb 2, the Christian holiday of Candlemas, winter will last another six weeks.  If no shadow is seen, legend says, spring will come early.

Officials say that Merv's experience this morning means that spring is another 6 weeks away for Manitoba.

Oh...and just for clarification...Manitoba Merv is a puppet.  The real groundhogs probably knew better than to go outside today.

On the upside, I guess that means the much anticipated flooding will also come later as opposed to earlier.

Now bundle up and go tackle your day.

I'm here for YOU.

~Ciao
